Description

The purpose of this study was to investigate the educational, social, and environmental elements of social enterprises from the local business owners and workers in the city of Anyang, South Korea. A survey questionnaire was conducted for 180 days from January 27, 2019 to July 26, 2019, and a sample group consisting of 952 business owners and workers in Anyang within 18 different business types. Thus, the survey questionnaire investigated various educational, social, and environmental elements of social enterprises. The cognitions of awareness to motivations and interests of social enterprises were analyzed. The cognitions of the importance of social enterprise were dispersed somewhat steadily among possible selections with ‘…create employment opportunities.’ set at the highest frequency, and ‘…address an issue not mentioned in these selections.’ set at the lowest frequency. In cognition towards overall social enterprise awareness, ‘Psychological sense of safety and stability’, ‘Revitalization of local community’, ‘Improving the local environment’, ‘Participate in health awareness’, and ‘Participate in sustainable practices’ were shown to be in high points of agreement. Further research analytics rearranged the acquired data into two (2) additional forms of data output consisting of clusters and parallel plot groups. There were four (4) distinct clusters created from a dendrogram that grouped each participant’s profile according to forty (40) of their cumulative survey questionnaire responses. Within the dendrogram of participant profiles, the four clusters were categorized as; ‘Low societal engagement’, ‘Moderate societal engagement’, ‘High societal engagement’, and ‘Arbitrary societal engagement’ with respect to educational, social, and environmental elements of social enterprise. Furthermore, the dendrogram data was converted to a series of parallel plot points groups. Moreover, two (5) additional parallel plot groups were created and categorized by work experience, residence, education, age, and gender respectively. Conclusively, although the current situation of the city of Anyang is in the stages of major urban redevelopment, the potential overall effects of social enterprises in the city are great. In the future, a diverse plethora of business incubation programs, such as environmental sustainability in business programs and information supporting programs, along with corresponding facilities to support these various programs, can be applied to future urban development. In addition, the results of this study can be used as basic material for studying sustainability and directions of improvement for social enterprise in the future.
