“Feelings and Perceptions.”

In the chapter “Feelings and Perceptions,” Thich Nhat Hanh distinguishes between knowledge and understanding and says that “Guarding knowledge is not a good way to understand. Understanding means to throw away your knowledge…The Buddhist way of understanding is always letting go of our views and knowledge in order to [understand].” First, carefully explain why Thich Nhat Hanh says this and how it relates to the concept of nondualism. Then, drawing on any material from the course that you find useful or relevant, discuss how it relates, or does not relate, to your own understanding of the relationship between knowledge and understanding. Note:. Essays should be well-organized and detailed. There is no length requirement, but generally essays should include a brief introduction, two or three body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Direct citations are not necessary, but specific and detailed reference to the material and texts is highly recommended for a maximum score. Essays that are overly general or vague will be marked down.
