I’m working on a geology report and need a sample draft to help me study.

Short summary, that will then be turned into a presentation of:

Your presentation must include:

1. An Introduction. Introduce the area of the map in terms of a wider geological and geographical context. Comment on the general topography of the area.

2. Succession. Summarize and describe the succession, giving an overview of rock types and their ages, from oldest to youngest. Indicate thicknesses where possible.

3. Structures. Describe the structures present in the map: what they are and what kind, their orientation and how they can be identified on the map. In particular:

Folds: Describe the type and orientation of the folds present, or the attitude of the beds in areas where there has been no folding.
Faults: Describe the type, orientation and direction of fault movement where possible, and the effect on the outcrop pattern.
Unconformities: Describe the type and position in the stratigraphical column. If possible, identify the outcrop pattern present in the map (e.g. overstep, overlap).
*Remember that an unconformity is described as being at the base of a particular bed, NOT between one bed and another.

4. Geological History: The final part of your presentation should give a chronological account of the events depicted on the map, starting with the oldest and working to the youngest. Include environments of deposition, tectonic events, and don’t forget burial, lithification, uplift, erosion, marine transgressions and regressions, timing of folding, faulting, etc.
