Milwaukee Encyclopedia

The Project asks you to think about genres and how they help flesh out a conversation. Your job is to do the following: 1. Read through the Milwaukee Encyclopedia of Business entries. Select a group of five or six that are related to one another, and involve a core theme. (For example, those which are about the brewing industry, about labor movements, about local politics, etc.) 2. Research this general theme or group. (So, research “Milwaukee Breweries” or “History of Brewing” or “History of Milwaukee Socialism” or “Milwaukee Labor Movements.”) 3. Create a list of the different sources you find. 1) What genres did you find? (Movies, articles, pop culture, etc.?) 2) Who are the stakeholders for the different sources? 4. Select a stakeholder that is related to your topic. 5. Create a genre project about your theme which would appeal to that stakeholder. 1) For example, a stakeholder for the Milwaukee brewing industry would be bar owners. These owners would care about different parts of brewing that beer fans might not care about, like on-time delivery of product, or price of wholesale. 2) You might, then, create a different genre (like an advertisement, or a commercial, or a newspaper article) ABOUT this part of the topic. 3) For example: You could made an ad for bar owners to purchase a new piece of software which keeps track of local delivery schedules for brews. 6. To submit this project, you should turn in: 1) Your encyclopedia entries you chose 2) The sources you found in doing research 3) The genres you found in the sources 4) The stakeholders for these genres 5) Your final project 6) One paragraph explaining why you made the project you made
