What is Turabian Style?

Kate Turabian is the one we owe for inventing the Turabian Style. Kate Turabian was University of Chicago’s dissertation secretary. Her book A Handbook for Writers of Research Papers and Theses provides more information about Turabian formatting, including how to create a Turabian style webpage.

Turabian Style is based upon the Chicago style. It is also used to write humanity papers like history papers, religion papers and English Literature papers. Sometimes, it can be used in other disciplines.

The standard for formatting scholarly books is the Chicago formatting style. Kate Turabian’s focus was, however, on the guidelines for paper writing, as students have always struggled with writing papers.

Turabian Style is therefore different from Chicago Style in that it leaves out information relevant only to publishers.

Two formatting conventions are available under Turabian Style.

• Students use both footnotes and endnotes in the notes and bibliography approach.
• This parenthetical format allows writers to cite papers in the same way as MLA or Author-Date formats. It can be used in the social, natural or physical sciences.

If Turabian Style paper writing instructions are given, you should always use the footnotes and endnotes variants, unless otherwise specified.

How to format a perfect Turabian Style paper

Margin: The margins should not exceed 1 inch and 1.5 inches respectively.

Font and Typeface : Times New Roman 12 pt. Font is preferred. Font size should not be lower than 10 points if you have to.

Spacing Your entire Turabian Style Paper should have double-spaced. There are some exceptions. includes block quotations, footnotes and endnotes. also includes table titles, figure captions, and reference lists.

Page numbering: Page Numbers always start on the page you begin the text. Turabian Style Cover Pages or the title pages do not have page numbers. Page numbers should appear in the header of the page or in the footer at the bottom.

Title page – The title pages can be customized to meet your needs. Make sure you are familiar with the various Turabian Style title pages and cover pages for college papers.

Inserting Footnotes in Turabian Style Papers

• Your cursor should be at the place where the superscript number note should appear.
• You can find the footnotes option in Word processing programs by going to the ” references” tab.
• Depending on the content of your paper, you can click on either ” Footnotes“, or ” Endnotes“.
• After you have selected either footnote (or endnote), the superscript number will be displayed on the page. The cursor will move to the bottom or end of the page, where you can enter the citation and any other pertinent information.
• After you have written the note, scroll back to your text to continue writing.

Word processors can format and number notes automatically. This is how easy and exciting technology has made education. The paper will automatically correct any deletions or updates to the notes.

How to Cite the Bible Chicago/Turabian Style

In your Turabian Style Papers, refer to entire books or chapters of Apocrypha or Bible.

2 Samuel, for example, records the entire confrontation between King David and Prophet Nathan.

There is no need for the Bible to be included in your bibliography or reference list when citing the bible in footnotes, endnotes, and parenthetical references.

You can only cite a passage or a scripture if you use the abbreviated title of the book, chapter and verse numbers. The page number should not be included. A colon separates the verse and chapter numbers.

Example: 1 Cor. 13:5, 15: 12-20.

Bible:

Pss. 121:3-4, 128:3 (English Standard Version).

Subsequent Short Citation: Jn. 3:16.

Qur’an:

Citation with Section Qur’an 8: (Al-Anfal).

Qur’an 1 – Citation without Section

Bibliography Entry The bibliography does not have to include the Bible or other sacred works.

How to Cite a Movie In Chicago/Turabian Style

Citing motion pictures or movies, Turabian requires that you include the title, release date, name of studio, entity or director, as well as the director’s name.

Note Not Number. Title of Movie, directed By First Name of Director Last name of Director, featuring (Names Of Primary Actors & Actresses), (Name of Distributing or Producing Company, Year), Format for Movie (Distributing Company), Year.
