**6. Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom. (336)

Version A:

An academic interest that has inspired me ever since I was young has been biology and the overall understanding of the human body. When I was 10, I recall always wanting to go to the local blockbuster to get documentaries about the human body. I was fascinated with movies about the heart, brain, lungs, nervous system, eyes, skeleton, muscles; just about everything that my parents allowed me to watch, simply because it was interesting to me. I would continue my interest on other social media platforms such as YouTube, watching videos about surgical procedures to see what real life anatomy looked like.

My first experience that sparked my interest in pursuing a career in the medical field occurred in my high school biology class. Our unit on human anatomy gave me the opportunity to dissect a desist guinea pig to everyone’s discomfort of the smell, I loved it, the little intricates allowed me to gain new insight and better understanding of the importance of each and every organ. From that day forward my excitement for the understanding of anatomy flourished.

Luckily, after that class, I received the unique opportunity to volunteer at my local hospital with a program called extreme responders. It was quite the experience for me helping in the emergency room (ER) I learned a lot about how it would be like working in a hospital. Personally, I enjoyed it, although clinically I was not able to help anyone, I still had a wonderful time helping the nurse’s setup beds for incoming patients and conversing with the nurses, asking them about their experiences and how they got to be where they were. To me, biology really inspired me to pursue a career that I am passionate about, being able to learn about the human body and helping people. I aspire to become an emergency physician through my experiences with biology and volunteering at the hospital encompasses everything that I want to do in the future, and It all started with a single biology class.

Version B:
