I need an explanation for this Literature question to help me study.

Answer either one of the following questions. Whichever format is fine. 500 words.

1.We have read two different stories of love suicides this semester, in Monzaemon’s “The Love Suicides at Amijima” and in Aphra Behn’s Oronooko. How are these stories similar and how are they different? What cultural context is necessary to understand them? What circumstances and cultural or personal values motivate the characters? Why do they do it? Are we meant to sympathize with their decision or judge it? (Or both?) How do you know?

2.Many of the texts we have read so far have also dealt with the roles, rights, and expectations of women in different social and historical contexts. Choose one or more of the female characters from any of the texts we have read and discuss the way the text deals with their situation. How are they limited in ways the male characters are not? On the other hand, are they sometimes able to do things that the male characters are not able to do? Are the female characters more passive or active in the text? Why? Does the author seem to be accepting the roles and expectations of women of their particular time and place, or challenging them?
