Positivity Through Your Ad For a Friend

I need support with this Communications question so I can learn better.

One of the most significant relationships we can experience is that of a good friend.

The goal of this assignment is for you to think about what you look for and value in a friend while focusing on the concept from your text called Positivity.

Sometimes we surround ourselves with people who do not help us to be the best we can be. Sometimes one of the most difficult things we must do for ourselves is to remove unhealthy people from our lives. And sometimes, it is our friends that are closer than our own family.

One of the primary relational maintenance behaviors that helps a relationship continue to grow and thrive is POSITIVITY (pg 294). Behaviors that entail positivity make others feel comfortable around us.

In this assignment you are going to create an AD FOR A FRIEND.

Some of you may already be familiar with the concept of writing a personal ad to meet prospective romantic partners. Hey, 1 out of 5 relationships start on E-Harmony right?! 🙂

HOWEVER, the goal of this assignment is NOT to write an ad for a romantic partner! Nor is it meant to be just a small paragraph. Your ad is geared toward attracting a platonic friend!!

But, this should not look and sound like a typical ad. IT SHOULD BE CREATED WITH THE FOCUS ON SELLING YOURSELF AS A FRIEND THAT UNDERSTANDS THE IMPORTANCE OF POSITIVITY IN A FRIENDSHIP.

I don’t care if the ad is looking for a same-sex or opposite-sex friend. You can include that goal or you can leave it out completely. Decisions like this are part of you understanding who and what you are looking for in a friend. However, there are three main ideas that must be included in your ad. 1.) An understanding of yourself. 2.) An understanding of the characteristics you are looking for in a friend. 3.) Your perspective on friendships. Be creative!!! And DO NOT FORGET that your Ad needs to focus on the concept of POSITIVITY!!

The more creative the better the grade! Add pictures and headlines; use whatever you can think of to make it look like a real ad. It should be at least a half page ad, but a full page could be even better.

From this assignment, I have students make a lot of changes within the friendships in their lives. And the changes always seem to be positive ones. So, let’s see how this goes for you.

Clearly, this is an assignment that needs to be shared. So, as we have done before with discussion assignments, you need to start a NEW thread at bottom of this description where it says “reply” to post your ad. You can copy and paste in your ad or just add it as an attachment. Then you must reply under at least two classmate’s ads.
